In a world where environmental awareness and sustainability are becoming increasingly important, it is crucial to look closely and understand what really lies behind the term “sustainable.” Because sustainable is not always the same as sustainable. Greenwashing and lack of transparency are major problems for the end customer, who often has to rely on the manufacturer’s claims.

A particularly illustrative example of this problem can be found in some Far Eastern countries. There, PET bottles are produced, immediately shredded, and processed into yarn. The resulting products are then declared sustainable, although the actual recycling process is more apparent than real. This misleads consumers and undermines trust in truly sustainable practices.

Other examples of greenwashing include brands that use minimal recycled material in their products but heavily promote them as environmentally friendly, even though the majority of the product is made from new plastic. Products labeled as “natural” or “environmentally friendly,” despite containing harmful chemicals or being produced under environmentally damaging conditions, also contribute to confusion and deception.

At Noah*s Ocean, we do our best to work truly sustainably and ensure transparency in all our production steps. For example, our outer fabric is made from 100% post-consumer PET. This means that the PET bottles had already reached the end of their original lifecycle, and we gave them a new purpose. These bottles were collected, cleaned, shredded, and processed into new yarn that we use for our products.

We are particularly proud of our inner lining, the softest you have ever felt around the important things in life. This is sourced in Portugal and processed into yarn in a Portuguese factory. The yarn is then sent to our manufactory near Porto, where it is integrated into our swimwear.

Our shorts are packaged in degradable plastic (d2w) and come with a free wet bag, which is also made from 100% post-consumer PET. This ensures that our packaging is as sustainable as our products.

Our goal is to offer you products that you can be sure are made from responsibly sourced and processed materials. We want to gain and maintain the trust of our customers through honesty and transparency. For us, sustainability is not a marketing strategy but a commitment to our planet and future generations.

We do our best but continue to strive to improve our products even further in the future and constantly put everything to the test for upcoming collections. We invite you to make conscious purchasing decisions and join us in our quest for true sustainability.

For a better ocean.
