In a world where environmental awareness and sustainability are becoming increasingly important, it is crucial to take a closer look and understand what really lies behind the term "sustainable". Because not all sustainability is the same. Greenwashing and a lack of transparency are major problems for the end customer, who often has to rely on manufacturers' claims.

A particularly vivid example of this problem can be found in some Far Eastern countries. PET bottles are produced there, shredded immediately afterwards and processed into yarn. The resulting products are then labelled as sustainable, although the actual recycling process is more of a sham than a reality. This misleads consumers and undermines trust in truly sustainable practices.

Other examples of greenwashing include brands that use minimal recycled material in their products but heavily advertise them as environmentally friendly, even though the majority of the product is made from virgin plastic. Products that are labelled as 'natural' or 'eco-friendly' despite containing harmful chemicals or being manufactured in environmentally damaging conditions also contribute to confusion and deception.

At Noah*s Ocean, we do our best to be truly sustainable and ensure transparency in all our production steps. Our outer fabric, for example, is made from 100% post-consumer PET. This means that the PET bottles had already reached the end of their original life cycle and we gave them a new purpose. These bottles were collected, cleaned, shredded and processed into new yarn, which we use for our products.

Our shorts are packaged in degradable plastic (d2w) and come with a free wet bag, which is also made from 100% post-consumer PET. This ensures that our packaging is just as sustainable as our products.

We are also particularly proud of our inner lining, probably the softest you've ever felt around the important things in life. This is sourced in Portugal and processed into yarn in a Portuguese factory. The yarn is then sent to our manufactory near Porto, where it is integrated into our swimwear.

Our packaging is fully recyclable and made from environmentally friendly materials. We are continuously working to reduce our carbon footprint by using renewable energy in our production.

Our goal is to provide you with products that you can be sure are made from responsibly sourced and processed materials. We want to gain and maintain the trust of our customers through honesty and transparency. Sustainability is not a marketing strategy for us, but a commitment to our planet and future generations.

We do our best, but continue to strive to improve our products even further in the future and constantly put everything to the test for the upcoming collections. We invite you to make conscious purchasing decisions and join us in our quest for true sustainability.

    For a better Ocean.
